11/5 Report

Day 2.  Ugh.  This is when I remember that the second day after working out is when I stop feeling invincible.  I ache.  And I feel old.  And I'm tired, BUT I put the baby in bed and then dragged my rear end over to Planet Fitness and ran and walked on the treadmill (Mom stayed with the kids).  I'll get in some classes eventually to show me how to work the weight equipment, so, for now I'll just do whatever I do...trying not to cause foot fractures and shin splints.

Today, I found it quite satisfying to walk at 3.5 mph for 25 calories and run at 5.0 mph for 50 calories.  I'm sure some people measure distance or time, but whatever.  This worked for me today once I figured it out, haha.  I watched about 35 minutes of Bones.

Once I got off the treadmill, I walked around and looked at the machines and decided to wait to figure those out.  Really, I'm a group exerciser...I hate exercising alone (outside of cardio machines).  Hopefully, SH will join me soon.

One thing I did try tonight was the HydroMassage bed.  Now, that was weird.  And strangely relaxing.  Strangely.

11/3 Report

I came home from school this evening, and then went back out to Planet Fitness for my first go-round on this membership.

I got there and decided that I would start on a piece of equipment that I know and love/hate:  the treadmill.  I randomly selected the last treadmill on the end and hopped on.  I plugged in my earbuds, hit Quick Start, and then looked up to realize that of the available machines, I had unknowingly (and awesomely) picked one that already had HGTV playing.  And what was on?  A Fixer-Upper marathon!!  YEE-UH!

So, I walked for about 2 minutes at 3.5 mph, ran for 10 minutes at 4.0 mph, walked for about 5 minutes at 3.7 mph, ran for about 4 minutes at 4.5, and then cooled down for 5 minutes as it incrementally slowed down.

Workout Summary

Then I went to the Ab Zone and used the two hip machines...everything else looked scary so I skiipped them.  And then I went over to the other Ab rotation station...and I don't know anything about those machines either.  So...

I went and sat in the automated massage chair which comes with my membership (I'm pretty sure this is the only reason I signed up, haha).  Five minutes of bliss.

And then it was over.

Day one in the books.

My mother made me do it...

For a while, we had a membership at the Sportsplex here, but we barely used it.  Partly, that was because we had three children and the Tot Watch cost as much per month as the membership.  That is to say...too much.

So a teacher friend and I were working out after school, but then she got injured and couldn't work out--and you know that I'm a slacker when I don't have accountability, so that fizzled out.  Then suddenly I was the cheerleading sponsor and there was baby #3 and any dream of spare time was gone.

And here we are.  Planet Fitness just opened up across the street from my neighborhood and their promotional rates and perks were pretty good, so I figure it's time to do something.  (My mother made me go look into it...and she was right--and since she's willing to watch the kids while I go, it's a win-win, I suppose.)

So this blog is where I'm going to let you know how miserably (or how well) it's going.  ;)

Reboot...seven years later

Seven years.
  • Three kids.
  • Too many pounds.
  • Too much sugar.
  • Too many carbs.
  • Too little self-control.
  • Too little exercise.
  • Time for a change.
I hate change.

So, time for accountability...time to keep track.

Here.  I.  Go.
